In keeping with MSD Singapore’s Strategic Master Plan, the state-of-the-art 19-acre Pharmaceutical Facility manufactures the combination of ezetimibe-simvastatin for the treatment of elevated cholesterol. The Pharmaceutical Facility supports MSD’s worldwide strategic tablet formulation capability.

Pharmaceutical processing at the plant uses proven approaches which result in efficiencies that save expense, effort and time and further enhance quality assurance. These proven approaches facilitate the sharing of know-how and best practices between plant sites.

The pharmaceutical facility functions on a multi-floor operating concept. Its unique design and successful completion despite an impossibly short timeframe makes MSD’s pharmaceutical facility one of the most remarkable additions to Singapore’s biomedical landscape.

The Making of the Pharmaceutical Facility

The project has achieved many “firsts” for both Merck and its partner, Pharmadule Sweden. It is the first time ever…

Merck has used modular construction for their process facility
Merck has attempted to construct such a facility in such a short timeframe
Pharmadule has ever installed their modules against an adjacent conventionally-built building
Pharmadule has to exactly replicate an existing process facility

At the peak of its construction, the pharmaceutical facility has a global work force comprising 1,600 people from diverse nations. Still, we surpassed 4,450,000 hours worked without a single Lost Time Incident (LTI). This is a remarkable achievement, considering the short timeframe on which it is based. As a result, the site is awarded M.O.M.’s prestigious safety award in both 2002 and 2003, a first for Singapore.
